Digital Communications Specialist 3


 The Digital Communications Specialist for the CMRS Center for Early Global Studies (CMRS-CEGS) designs and manages the Center's website, social media, digital newsletters and communications. Independently and effectively utilizes WordPress and other current content management technologies to create graphically-rich website content, to architect website navigation (menus, hierarchies), and to update and archive webpages. Experience with Adobe XD and application design essential in order to design an app for the Center's events and external relations. Ability to use HTML and CSS to design tools for client-side interface and PHP for server-side coding a plus. Works closely with: 1) the CMRS-CEGS Director, to design, create, and produce graphically-rich, branded publicity materials to promote the Center, its programs, and activities; 2) the organizers of CMRS-CESG programs to create websites for conferences and special events; 3) Principal Investigators to develop and maintain websites for grant-funded and other research projects administered by the Center; and 4) the Center's staff providing technological support and troubleshooting difficulties with software, email, or digital equipment.
The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for marketing and publicity, including the design, production, and distribution of e-flyers, announcements, brochures, e-newsletters, videos and podcasts to publicize CMRS-CEGS programming, activities, and special events. The Specialist documents the Center's programs and special events with digital photography and video- or audio-recording as appropriate. Independently uses Zoom for remotely-presented and hybrid (simultaneously in-person and live-streamed) events. Prepares and edits digital video and audio content (Adobe Premiere, mp4) for posting on the Center's podcasting page and YouTube. Edits and maintain the Center's YouTube channel playlists and home page Serves as liaison to HumTech. Maintains digital databases for CMRS mailings (general and targeted), development, and event registration. In addition, provides assistance and support for CMRS-CEGS conferences, lectures, seminars, and other public events. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Required/Preferred

1. At least five years of experience working with digital technology in an academic setting.

2. An academic degree or familiarity/experience with some aspect of the Center's subject matter.

3. Demonstrated artistic and creative abilities and skill.

4. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

5. Able to independently operate computers (PC, Apple), smart phones (Android, iPhone), and peripherals (e.g., scanner, OWLcam, digital video camera, projector).

6. Demonstrated ability to design and maintain a website using Wordpress and other content management tools.

7. Demonstrated expertise in preparing contextually appropriate use of appealing graphics and imagery, architecting site navigation, and writing concise descriptive text in order to create distinctive and eye-catching webpages, digital newsletters and announcements.

8. Skill and experience using Adobe Creative Suite applications (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Premiere, Adobe AD) and audio/video file formats such as MP4. Well experienced using Microsoft Office.

17. Demonstrated knowledge of electronic database (Excel, Access) design, utilization, and maintenance.

18. Knowledge of and experience using web publishing standards and best practices established by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), as well as Search Engine Optimization guidelines.

19. Ability to compose, proofread, and edit text for business and publicity communications and materials using the proper grammar, punctuation, voice, spelling (including diacritics and non-English characters), with great attention to detail.
