Job Description

Los Angeles Junction (LAJ) Switch Crew Members are responsible for the safe and efficient movement of railcars. A switch crew members job primarily consists of grouping railcars in a rail yard to build trains for onward movement on BNSF and UP lines and delivering railcars to and pulling railcars from local customers to facilitate their loading and unloading.

The Switch Crew Member position can mean a significant lifestyle change as the work schedule is non-traditional and requires someone to be available to work given a 1.5-hour notice until your seniority allows you to hold a regular job. When you are on a regular job there are 3 different shifts to select from and the rest days vary based on the respective job. This position is located in Vernon, CA and does not require time spent away from home.

Compensation

During new hire training/familiarization a student trainee will earn $216.93 each day/shift worked.

Once you complete the new hire training program and become Conductor/Foreman qualified you will earn $289.24 (based on 8 hour basic day shift).

* These compensation figures are solely based on the day/shift rate and do not include any additional compensation i.e. certification, overtime or arbitraries etc. and do not include any future rate increases as a result of the national agreement.

Training

· Los Angeles Junction conducts a comprehensive on the job training program for all student trainees. The new hire training program consists of Company-paid on-the-job and classroom training at location hired for approximately 8 weeks pending evaluation.

Work Environment

A conductor should expect to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. This may mean working in poor weather conditions day or night.

· Extreme all-weather conditions

· Walk and perform work on uneven surfaces

· Safety sensitive work environment

· Loud noise and fumes

· Work on and around heavy and moving machinery
