Job Description


AECOM
is seeking an Entry-Level Environmental Scientist to be based in our Long Beach, Los Angeles, or Orange, CA offices. This position will support our Remediation team within our Environment business line.

This position is expected to begin June/July 2023..

Job Overview:

The Entry-Level Environmental Scientist will assist our Remediation team both in the field and in office, supporting soil and groundwater investigations and remediation projects. The ideal candidate will be willing and able to learn new skills and methods on challenging field and office assignments in a collaborative team environment.

We are seeking a candidate who is an excellent communicator and technically capable. The successful candidate will work under the oversight of an experienced field team of engineers, scientists, and technicians on environmental remedial cleanup and monitoring projects. This position will involve field and office responsibilities with potential for growth.

The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Project Field and Office Support for Site Assessment and Remediation Projects.
  • Perform field sampling activities and become proficient with field instrumentation and equipment.
  • Work on interesting, fast-paced projects with the opportunity to learn and expand skills.
  • Plan and manage field sampling teams and tasks
  • Field sampling for soil, soil vapor and groundwater is required in a variety of environmental settings.
  • Remediation system operation and maintenance.
  • Analytical data analysis.
  • Report preparation.
  • Data summaries.
  • Ability to pass a client-mandated drug test.
  • Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain, variable outdoor conditions including heat, noise, and/or chemicals.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and pass fit test.
  • Ability to wear a respirator and pass fit test.

Qualifications


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Soil Sciences, or related field.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License
  • Due to the nature of work, U.S. Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Environmental Science or related field.
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER and current 8-hour annual refresher certification.
  • Experience with Oil and Gas clients and working on active petroleum facilities.
  • Ability to manage subcontractors
  • Candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors.
  • Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects.
  • Positive attitude, willingness to mentor junior staff, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative. Field work may be required including oversight of subcontractors.
  • Candidate must be proficient with basic computer programs; Microsoft Suite Programs.

  • Travel is required for this position. This position will be subject to a pre-employment Motor Vehicle Record Screening.
  • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
  • This is an in-office position. Candidates are expected to reside in the Long Beach/Los Angeles/Orange, CA area or relocate if necessary.
  • Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $50,002 - $87,503.
