Port Otago Group’s business comprises a regional container terminal, bulk port activities, cruise and property investment and development. We service South Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, working with customers to streamline their supply chains. Our culture is hands-on, safety focused and encourages continuous improvement.

This is a great opportunity for someone to join our Dunedin Depot team as a Depot Operator. You will be an all-rounder and thrive on having variety in your work week, as you will be responsible for providing various duties associated with the day to day running of our Dunedin Container Depot.

Duties include:

  • Wash pad activities - surveying containers, identifying those needing repairs, cleaning of containers to MAF and customer standards and completing audit sheets as required.
  • Repairer - carrying out the necessary repairs or upgrades to containers.
  • Container Movement - operating our Sideloader’s which are responsible for the movement of empty containers to and from both road and rail transport and yard storage.

Hours of Work:

40 hours a week from Monday to Friday. Some flexibility to work overtime to meet operational requirements may be necessary.

The successful applicant will ideally have:

  • The physical ability to undertake heavy labouring, with an excellent safety record.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with computers as you will need to use our various systems.
  • A demonstrated strong work ethic, availability, attendance, timekeeping skills, and a team player.
  • Steel cutting, fabrication, welding, and painting experience would be advantageous.
  • Ability to learn to operate heavy machinery or already able to operate heavy machinery.

Previous experience operating Large Forklifts or Side Loaders will be highly regarded although this is not essential as full training will be provided to the successful applicant. Shortlisted applicants will be taken through a computer-based assessment initially to see if you have got what it takes to operate heavy machinery.

  • A full clean NZ Drivers licence is essential, including an excellent driving record.
